TWGHs S C Gaw Memorial College

School Re-opening Address by the Principal on 1st September, 2010

Good morning fellow teachers, boys and girls,

Welcome back to school after a fun and meaningful summer vacation. I am so happy to see all of you on the School Re-opening Day.  I am proud of being the new Principal of TWGHs S. C. Gaw Memorial College.  As far as I know, this is a school with good teachers, good students and good academic results.  May I take this opportunity to congratulate one of your elder brothers who has accomplished very impressive results in the 2010 Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (with 4 Distinctions and 1 Credit) and has been admitted to the University of Hong Kong studying Medicine.  Congratulations on the excellent achievements of our students!  Let¡¦s give our teachers a good round of applause for their dedication and commitment in taking good care of all of our students!  Also this is a school which puts great emphasis on English & Chinese.  That¡¦s why I would like to use both English & Chinese for my school re-opening address.  Now may I invite all of you to join me in welcoming the new teachers in the new school term, Ms Ng Wing Yan (Mathematics Teacher) and Ms Wu Wai Sze (English Teacher).  Welcome all of you to S C Gaw!

The importance of English is emphasized enough.  You need a good pass in English if you want to further your studies, enter the University or get a good job.  To enable our students to learn English better so as to sharpen their competitive edge, in F.1 both subjects, Integrated Humanities (IH) & Integrated Science (IS), are to be taught in English while for the senior forms quite a no. of subjects are taught in English as well.  When you enter the school (near the Covered Playground) you will find a poster on the School Major Areas of Concern --- ¡¥Strengthening Students¡¦ English Ability ´£¤É^»y¯à¤O¡¦ is one of them. (With ¡¥Enhancing Students¡¦ Learning Motivation ´£°ª¾Ç¥Í¾Ç²ß°Ê¾÷¡¦ and ¡¥Promoting Environmental Education ±À°ÊÀô«O±Ð¨|¡¦ as the other 2 Major Areas of Concern for 2010-11.)

Also as students of the school of TWGHs, we have to live up to the expectation of our school motto, that is, Diligence (Working hard) ¶Ô, Frugality (Leading a simple life) »ü, Loyalty (be loyal) ©¾ & faithfulness (be faithful) «H.  They are not just words to be memorized, but they are our way of life and code of behaviour (¡u¶Ô»ü©¾«H¡v¬O§ÚÌªº®Ö¤ß»ùÈ¤Î¦æ¬°¦u«h). With these qualities in hand, there is no mission that is impossible.
